Das

Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR

ist der neueste Vertreter der besonders leicht und kompakt konstruierten AIR-Serie des chinesischen Objektivherstellers Viltrox für APS-C-Kameras.

Dieses lichtstarke Weitwinkel-Objektiv (die äquivalente Brennweite am Kleinbild-Sensor entspricht 22,5mm) ist äußerst kompakt und leicht geworden, ohne dass dabei bei der Verarbeitung Kompromisse eingegangen wurden.

Das Objektivgehäuse ist aus stabilem Kunststoff, das Anschlussbajonett aus Metall.

In dieses Bajonett integriert ist auch ein USB-C-Anschluss für spätere Firmware Updates.

Mitgeliefert werden neben den beiden Front und Rückdeckeln auch eine Gegenlichtblende in leichter Tulpenform aus dem gleichen Kunststoff wie das Objektiv selbst.

Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung für das Objektiv sind 239 Dollar, erhältlich ist es für Nikon Z, Fujifilm X und Sony E-Mount.

Mir wurde das Testexemplar von Viltrox für die Dauer meines sehr intensiven Testes zur Verfügung gestellt.

Das Objektiv ist innenfokussierend, es ändert seine Baulänge nicht.

The lens is internally focusing and does not change its length.

Angebracht an eine Sony APS-C-Kamera (hier der Sony Alpha 6500) ergibt sich eine relativ kompakte und dabei leichte Kombination (vor allem wenn man den Bildwinkel im Hinterkopf behält).

Die Kamera-Objektiv-Kombination ist dabei auch nicht frontlastig und fühlt sich sehr stimmig an.

When mounted on a Sony APS-C camera (here the Sony Alpha 6500), the result is a relatively compact and lightweight combination (especially when you keep the angle of view in mind).

The camera-lens combination is not front-heavy and feels very harmonious.

Auch die mitgelieferte Gegenlichtblende trägt nur wenig auf und bietet neben dem besseren Streulichtschutz auch einen guten Schutz bei unbeabsichtigten Kontakten.

The included lens hood is also minimal and, in addition to providing better protection against stray light, also offers good protection against accidental contact.

Eine wirklich komplette Gesamt-Package, bei der nichts fehlt oder zugekauft werden muss.

Der Autofokus des Objektives war im Alltag sehr treffsicher und ausreichend schnell.

Ich mache jedoch selten Fotos von sich schnell bewegenden Objekten oder Menschen - 

falls ihr in dieser Hinsicht genauere Informationen braucht, müsst ihr euch nach Tests umschauen, bei denen darauf ein Haupt-Augenmerk gelegt wird.

The lens's autofocus was very accurate and sufficiently fast in everyday use.

However, I rarely take photos of fast-moving objects or people - 

If you need more detailed information in this regard, you will have to look for tests that focus on this.

Starten möchte ich in den Test direkt mit der Schärfeleistung, die das Objektiv erbringen kann.

Hierzu habe ich ein Testmotiv gewählt, bei dem sowohl der gewählte Fokuspunkt im Bildzentrum (das Haus in der vorderen Reihe links der nach oben führenden Straße) als auch die rechte obere Bildecke in einer Fokusebene liegen.

Man sieht die auf dem Blendenring aufgedruckten Blendenstufen in der Reihenfolge 

f1.7 - f2 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8 - f11:

I would like to start the test directly with the sharpness performance that the lens can deliver.

For this purpose, I chose a test motif in which both the selected focus point in the center of the image (the house in the front row to the left of the street leading upwards) and the upper right corner of the image are in the same focal plane.

f1.7 - f2 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8 - f11:

Vignettierung:

Die vom Objektiv verursachte Vignettierung bei Offenblende ist stark.

Sie verringert sich über f2 und f2.8 bis zu f4, wo sie schon kaum noch wahrnehmbar ist.

Aber erst bei f5.6 ist die Vignettierung verschwunden.

Als nächstes folgen 100%-Vergrößerungen aus der Bildmitte vom Fokuspunkt,

in der gleichen Reihenfolge wie oben:

Vignetting:

The vignetting caused by the lens at wide aperture is strong.

It decreases from f2 to f2.8 down to f4, where it is barely noticeable.

But only at f5.6 is vignetting no longer noticeable.

Next come 100% magnifications from the center of the image from the focus point,

in the same order as above:

Im Bildzentrum ist die Schärfeleistung ab Offenblende f1.7 hervorragend.

Auch die Kontraste sind ab Offenblende voll da.

In the image center, the sharpness performance is excellent from an open aperture of f1.7.

The contrasts are also fully present from the widest aperture.

In der Bildecke ist die Schärfe ab Offenblende bereits sehr gut und steigert sich bei f5.6 auf hervorragendes Niveau. 

Zusammenfassung:

Das erweiterte Bildzentrum ist ab Offenblende f1.7 hervorragend scharf und kontrastreich.

Auch die Bildecken erreichen bereits bei Offenblende sehr gutes Niveau, hervorragend sind diese ab f5.6.

Es gibt in den Bildecken ganz zarte Restspuren von lateralen chromatischen Aberrationen,

sie sind jedoch minimal und per 1-Click-Lösung im raw-Konverter rückstandsfrei entfernbar.

In the corners of the image, the sharpness is already very good from the widest aperture and increases to an excellent level at f5.6. 

Summary:

The extended image center is outstandingly sharp and rich in contrast from an aperture of f1.7.

The corners of the image also reach a very good level even at wide apertures, and are excellent from f5.6 onwards.

There are very slight residual traces of lateral chromatic aberrations in the corners of the image,

However, they are minimal and can be removed without leaving any residue using a 1-click solution in the raw converter.

Wenn es um das Hintergrundrendering geht, gibt es immer viele gegensätzliche Meinungen. 

Denn ob einem die Darstellung eines Objektives gefällt oder nicht, ist einfach Geschmackssache.

Der Eine möchte alles butterweich aufgelöst haben, der Andere mag es busy mit viel Outlining und Strukturen und/oder Swirl (und natürlich gibt es ganz viel zwischen diesen Extremen in der Mitte)...

Das Viltrox ist grundsätzlich für ein Weitwinkelobjektiv weich bei der Hintergrunddarstellung.

Es gibt wenig bis kein Outlining und Highlights werden auch nicht mit durch eine Linie begrenzten Bubbles dargestellt.

Die folgende Reihe zeigt die Entwicklung der Hintergrundunschärfe beim Abblenden.

Der Fokus lag auf der Schraube rechts im Bild, Distanz zu dieser war etwa 60 Zentimeter.

Die Blendenwerte sind  f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8:

When it comes to background rendering, there are always many conflicting opinions. 

Because whether you like the image quality of a lens or not is simply a matter of taste.

Some people want everything to be completely smooth, others prefer it busy with lots of outlining and structures and/or swirls (and of course, there's a lot in between these extremes in the middle)...

The Viltrox is generally soft in background representation for a wide-angle lens.

There is little to no outlining and highlights are not displayed with bubbles delimited by a line.

The following series shows the development of background blur when stopping down.

The focus was on the screw on the right side of the image, the distance to it was about 60 centimeters.

The aperture values are f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8:

Bereits bei Offenblende ist das Rendering der Hintergründe weich und unaufgeregt.

Beim Abblenden bleibt diese Grundcharakteristik erhalten

Auch mein anderes häufig gezeigtes Testmotiv zeigt dies schön:

Even at wide aperture, the rendering of the backgrounds is soft and calm.

When stopped down, this basic characteristic is retained

An der Naheinstellgrenze von 23cm ist das Hintergrundrendering noch einmal um einiges weicher und flächiger. Für ein Weitwinkelobjektiv ist diese Ausgewogenheit bemerkenswert.

Hier also eine Blendenreihe (f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8) an der Naheinstellgrenze des Objektives: 

At the closest focusing distance of 23cm, the background rendering is even softer and more flat. This balance is remarkable for a wide-angle lens.

Here is an aperture range (f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8) at the closest focusing distance of the lens: 

Auf größere Fokusdistanzen ist die  Quantität des Bokehs bei einem 15mm f1.7-Objektiv selbst bei Offenblende nicht mehr so groß und verringert sich beim Abblenden auch schnell.

Auch für solche Szenarien habe ich zwei Blendenreihen mit den Werten f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8 vorbereitet:

At longer focus distances, the amount of bokeh with a 15mm f1.7 lens is not as great, even at full aperture, and also decreases quickly when stopping down.

For such scenarios, I have also prepared two aperture ranges with the values f1.7 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 - f8:

Bei der folgenden Bildreihe habe ich mich bei Offenblende f1.7 immer weiter an mein Motiv angenähert,um die Veränderungen im Bildrendering deutlich zu machen.

Bemerkenswert ist das für ein Weitwinkelobjektiv auf alle Distanzen weiche,  immer unaufgeregte Rendering. Auch zu den Bildecken hin wird es nie kleinteilig und es gibt weder Swirl noch betonte Katzenaugen.

In the following series of images, I moved closer and closer to my subject at an aperture of f1.7 to clearly demonstrate the changes in image rendering.

What's remarkable is the smooth, unobtrusive rendering at all distances for a wide-angle lens. Even toward the corners, it never becomes fragmented, and there's neither swirl nor exaggerated catseyes.

Fokuspaare, 

also die gleiche Szene mit unterschiedlich gesetzten Fokuspunkten,

empfinde ich immer als sehr aufschlußreich, wenn es um des Vorder- und Hintergrundbokehrendering eines Objektives geht.

Ich finde das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR rendert sowohl die Unschärfe im Vordergrund als auch im Hintergrund gleich weich.

Ich habe hierzu auf unterschiedlichste Entfernungen einige Beispielpaare vorbereitet:

Focus pairs, 

i.e. the same scene with different focus points,

I always find it very informative when it comes to the foreground and background bokeh of a lens.

I think that the Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR renders both the foreground and background blur equally softly.

I have prepared some example pairs for different distances:

Im Nahbereich ist das Rendering des Viltrox sehr weich für ein Weitwinkelobjektiv.

Es gibt kein störendes Outlining, keinen Swirl und keine Katzenaugen zu den Bildecken hin.

Hintergrundhighlights sind dabei ohne äußere Begrenzungslinien.

At close range, the Viltrox's rendering is very soft for a wide-angle lens.

There is no distracting outlining, no swirls and no cat's eyes towards the corners of the image.

Background highlights have no outer boundary lines.

Auch auf mittlere Fokusdistanzen verbleibt das Rendering weich und unaufgeregt,

aber brennweitenbedingt gibt es natürlich nicht mehr soviel Unschärfe. 

Even at medium focus distances, the rendering remains soft and calm,

but due to the focal length there is of course not as much blur. 

Als Illustration hier Äpfel an einem Baum, Entfernung zum Fokuspunkt sind vielleicht 1,5m.

Das erste Bild ist bei Offenblende f1,7, das zweite Bild bei f8.

Auffälligster Unterschied ist die Vignette bei Offenblende, die Unschärfe hinter dem Motiv ist nur gering ausgeprägt. bei beiden Blendenwerten

As an illustration, here are apples on a tree, distance to the focus point is perhaps 1.5m.

The first image is at aperture f1.7, the second image at f8.

The most noticeable difference is the vignette at wide aperture, the blur behind the subject is only slightly pronounced at both aperture values.

Das Viertel rund um das Saarbrücker Schloß bildet eine kleine barocke Insel in der Innenstadt von Saarbrücken. Entworfen wurde das Schloß und die Gebäude auf der Sichtachse bis zur Ludwigskirche vom barocken Baumeister Friedrich Joachim Stengel.

Der im zweiten Weltkrieg zerstörte Mittelbau des Schlosses wurde in den 1980er-Jahren durch einen sich in das Ensemble einfügenden Glasbau des Architekten und Prisker-Preisträgers Gottfried Böhm ersetzt. Eine der wenigen (in meinen Augen) gelungenen Symbiosen von klassischer und moderner Architektur.

Die tiefstehende Sonne an diesem Sommernachmittag forderte das Viltrox in besonderer Form, aber es erwies sich auch in starken Gegenlichtsituationen als sehr leistungsstark.

Auch die Verzeichnung des Objektives (in keinem der Bilder korrigiert) ist in der Praxis  sehr unauffällig.

The district surrounding Saarbrücken Castle forms a small baroque island in Saarbrücken's city center. The castle and the buildings along the line of sight, up to St. Ludwig's Church, were designed by the baroque architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel.

The palace's central section, destroyed in World War II, was replaced in the 1980s by a glass structure designed by architect and Prisker Prize winner Gottfried Böhm, which blends seamlessly into the ensemble. One of the few (in my opinion) successful symbioses of classical and modern architecture.

The low sun on this summer afternoon put the Viltrox under particular pressure, but it also proved to be very powerful in strong backlight situations.

The lens distortion (not corrected in any of the images) is also very unnoticeable in practice.

Der ohnehin schon weite Blickwinkel des Objektives macht es natürlich auch besonders gut geeignet zum Erstellen von Panorama-Aufnahmen aus mehreren Hochformat-Bildern.

Die folgenden Bilder habe ich in Lightroom aus mehreren Bildern zusammengesetzt.

Wenn ihr sie anklickt, könnt ihr auch weit in die Panoramen hineinzoomen - beeindruckend, welche Fülle an Details darin steckt.

The lens's already wide angle of view also makes it particularly suitable for creating panoramic shots from several portrait format images.

I combined the following images in Lightroom from several single shots.

If you click on them, you can also zoom in on the panoramas – the wealth of detail they contain is impressive.

Das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR hat eine komplexe Verzeichnung - 

in der Bildmitte leicht tonnenförmig und in den äußersten Randbereichen leicht kissenförmig zu den Bildecken hin.

Das Gesamtausmaß ist aber nur gering und in normalen Bildern unauffällig.

Selbst bei Architekturaufnahmen wie in der Bildserie oben ist selten etwas zu bemerken.

Im Moment ist noch kein Korrekturprofil für Lightroom verfügbar.

The Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR has complex distortion - 

slightly barrel-shaped in the center of the image and slightly cushion-shaped in the outermost edge areas towards the corners of the image.

However, the overall extent is only small and inconspicuous in normal images.

Even in architectural photographs like the series above, there is rarely anything noticeable.

There is currently no correction profile available for Lightroom.

"Nach dem Regen folgt auch immer Sonnenschein" - so war es auch an diesem Sommernachmittag.

Das Viltrox erweist sich hierbei als idealer Begleiter für sowohl abgeblendet knackscharfe Landschaftsaufnahmen als auch für Detailaufnahmen bei offener Blende mit schönem Weitwinkel-Bokeh.

Überzeugend ist auch in diesen Bildern die Gegenlichtfestigkeit.

Die Blendensterne sind leider nicht ganz klar definiert, aber trotzdem recht ansehnlich.

"After the rain there is always sunshine" - and that was the case on this summer afternoon.

The Viltrox proves to be the ideal companion for both razor-sharp landscape shots when stopped down and for detail shots with an open aperture and beautiful wide-angle bokeh.

The backlight resistance is also convincing in these images.

Unfortunately, the aperture stars are not very clearly defined, but they are still quite attractive.

Okay , zugegeben:

Personenaufnahmen mit einem starken Weitwinkelobjektiv sind normalerweise etwas, was ich aufgrund der perspektivischen Verzerrungen sehr selten mache.

Andererseits kann man so auch viel Umfeld in den Kontext einbinden -

und so habe ich das Objektiv  genutzt für einige Aufnahmen mit der Yoga-Buch-Autorin Christine Bielecki:

Okay, admittedly:

Taking pictures of people with a strong wide-angle lens is something I rarely do because of the perspective distortion.

On the other hand, you can also integrate a lot of the environment into the context -

and so I used the lens for some shots with the yoga book author Christine Bielecki:

Im näheren Bereich hat man dann direkt das prominente Verzerren von Gesichtsproportionen - 

das ist brennweitenbedingt und hat nichts mit der Objektivkonstruktion zu tun.

Mit meiner Tochter habe ich trotzdem einige Portraits gegen die tiefstehende Sonne an einem lauen Sommerabend gemacht - und das Viltrox liefert auch hier ab.

Schönes Bokeh bei sehr guter Schärfe am Fokuspunkt und nur sehr geringe Kontrastverluste im Gegenlicht - klasse.

In the closer area you can see the prominent distortion of facial proportions - 

This is due to the focal length and has nothing to do with the lens construction.

Nevertheless, I took some portraits with my daughter against the low sun on a warm summer evening - and the Viltrox delivers here too.

Beautiful bokeh with very good sharpness at the focus point and only very slight loss of contrast in backlight - great.

Abgeblendet auf f5 bleibt das Verhalten im Gegenlicht gleich gut und die Grundschärfe steigert sich noch etwas:

Stopped down to f5, the performance in backlight remains just as good and the basic sharpness increases slightly:

Man kann das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR sehr gut für Personenaufnahmen nutzen, wenn man die bekannten Brennweiten-Schwierigkeiten umschifft.

The Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR can be used very well for portrait photography if you avoid the well-known focal length difficulties.

Der Titel der Serie sagt es direkt:

Meine 9-jährige Tochter war mit uns auf Fototour unterwegs.

Während wir hauptsächlich mit analogen Mittelformat-Kamers oder verrückten Adaptionen fotografiert haben, hat sie sich die Sony Alpha 6500 mit dem Viltrox geschnappt - und dabei sind die folgenden, tollen Bilder aus ungewohnter Perspektive entstanden:

While we mainly shot with analog medium format cameras or crazy adaptations, she grabbed the Sony Alpha 6500 with the Viltrox - and the following great pictures were taken from her unusual perspective:

Hier macht das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 eine wirklich gute Figur.

Es gibt, wie im Schärfekapitel angesprochen, zarte Spuren von lateralen chromatischen Aberrationen, die jedoch mit einem Klick per "Häkchen setzen" in der Bildbearbeitung entfernt werden können.

Und auch die longitudinalen chromatischen Aberrationen sind kein größeres Problem.

Zuerst zeige ich euch das übliche Chromösenbild mit den jeweiligen Vergrößerungen von vor und hinter der Schärfeebene:

The Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 really performs well here.

As mentioned in the sharpness chapter, there are subtle traces of lateral chromatic aberrations, which can, however, be removed with a single click by "checking" the box in image editing.

And the longitudinal chromatic aberrations are not a major problem either.

First, I will show you the usual chrome-ooze image with the respective magnifications in front of and behind the focal plane:

Man findet feine Spuren von magenta vor der Schärfeebene und grün dahinter.

In Gesamtbildern sind diese aber sehr unproblematisch und eigentlich nie auffällig, selbst in schwierigen Situationen:

You can find fine traces of magenta in front of the focal plane and green behind it.

In the overall picture, however, these are very unproblematic and actually never noticeable, even in difficult situations:

Ich liebe es, wenn es im Sommer noch lange hell und warm ist - 

das lädt immer zu einem ausgeprägten "After-work-walk" ein.

Das besondere Abendlicht , egal ob in den Straßen oder im nahen Wald, gibt den Bildern das gewisse Etwas.

I love it when it is still bright and warm in summer in the evenings - 

This always invites you to take a distinct "after-work walk".

The special evening light, whether in the streets or in the nearby forest, gives the pictures that certain something.

Das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR hat sich im Alltag als sehr gut nutzbar auch in schwierigen Gegenlichtsituationen erwiesen.

Abgeblendet gibt es meist nur einen geringen Kontrastverlust, dafür bilden sich in der Nähe der Lichtquelle gerne kleine grüne Blobs und leichte Ghosts. Diese sind aber in meinen Augen nicht bildruinierend, und mit leichtem Verschwenken können diese meist noch abgemildert werden.

Hier zwei Beispielreihen bei  f11 mit leichten Perspektivänderungen bei jedem Bild:

The Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR has proven to be very useful in everyday life, even in difficult backlight situations.

When stopped down, there's usually only a slight loss of contrast, but small green blobs and slight ghosting tend to form near the light source. However, in my opinion, these aren't image-ruining, and they can usually be mitigated with a slight pan.

Here are two example series at f11 with slight perspective changes in each image:

Ich habe das Objektiv im Gegenlicht nicht geschont, und außer diesen leichten Flares und Ghosts gibt es abgeblendet nichts zu beanstanden.

I didn't take it easy on the lens in backlight, and apart from these slight flares and ghosts, there's nothing to complain about when stopped down.

Selbst wenn man gegen die unverdeckte Sonne fotografiert, bringt dies das Viltrox nicht aus der Ruhe.

Even if you take photos against the unobscured sun, the Viltrox doesn't get disturbed.

Die folgende Gegenlichtszene seht ihr zuerst bei Offenblende f1,7 dann stark abgeblendet auf f13:

Auch bei Offenblende f1.7 ist das Objektiv im Gegenlicht stark.

Auch hier gibt es einen leichten Kontrastverlust, aber die Flares und Ghosts sind unauffälliger als abgeblendet. 

Even at aperture f1.7 the lens is strong in backlight.

There is also a slight loss of contrast here, but the flares and ghosts are less noticeable than when stopped down. 

Das Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR ist ein Weitwinkel-Objektiv fast ohne Schwächen, aber mit sehr vielen Stärken zum attraktiven Preis.

Gut verarbeitet, trotzdem leicht und mit sehr angenehmer Größe - eine nahezu ideale Weitwinkel-Ergänzung zu einem Normalobjektiv in einem kompakten Kit.

Der Autofokus trifft hierbei zuverlässig und ausreichend schnell.

Insgesamt ist die Liste der objektiv bewertbaren Stärken lang:

Ausgezeichnete Schärfe im erweiterten Bildzentrum ab Offenblende f1,7, auch die Bildecken habe schon sehr gutes Niveau. Diese sind ab f5.6 ebenso hervorragend.

Bei f5.6 ist die Vignette verschwunden, bei offeneren Blendenwerten ist sie deutlich bemerkbar.

Die chromatischen Aberrationen sind insgesamt kein Problem: Die lateralen CAs sind kaum sichtbar und per 1-Click-Lösung im Raw-Konverter verschwunden, die longitudinalen Aberrationen sind ebenso mild und nur bei Offenblende überhaupt in Vergrößerungen zu erkennen. 

Im Gegenlicht schlägt sich das Viltrox gut, nur bei extremen Situationen ergeben sich leicht Flares.

Die Sonnensterne sind nur mäßig definiert, hier könnte eine andere Blendenkonstruktion leicht eine große Verbesserung bringen. 

Insgesamt also bleiben nur die Vignette und die Blendensterne als negative Punkte übrig - 

fast unglaublich bei einem Budget-Weitwinkelobjektiv.

Neben diesen harten Fakten hat mir das Fotografieren mit dem Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 Air  besonders aufgrund seiner Abbildungscharakteristik viel Spaß gemacht.

Es rendert einfach schön modern!

Bei vielen Weitwinkel-Objektiven hat man auch heute noch ein sehr nervöses Bokeh - beim Viltrox ist das kein Thema. Es gibt keine Bubbles mit Begrenzungslinien, keine Catseyes, kein Swirl, kein Outlining - das Rendering ist immer weich - auch unabhängig von der Motivdistanz.

Viltrox hat es mit diesem Objektiv geschafft, für  relativ wenig Geld ein sehr leistungsstarkes, kompaktes und leichtes Weitwinkel-Objektiv zu  bauen, das perfekt für Landschafts- und Reiseaufnahmen geeignet ist und aufgund seiner Offenblende-Stärke gleichzeitig auch "besondere" Bildeindrücke ermöglicht.

The Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 AIR is a wide-angle lens with almost no weaknesses, but with many strengths at an attractive price.

Well-made, yet lightweight and a very comfortable size - an almost ideal wide-angle addition to a standard lens in a compact kit.

The autofocus is reliable and sufficiently fast.

Overall, the list of objectively assessable strengths is long:

Excellent sharpness in the extended center of the image from f1.7 onwards, and the corners of the image are also very good. These are equally excellent from f5.6 onwards.

At f5.6 the vignetting disappears, but at wider apertures it is clearly noticeable.

The chromatic aberrations are not a problem overall: the lateral CAs are barely visible and disappear with a one-click solution in the raw converter, the longitudinal aberrations are just as mild and are only noticeable when pixel peeping at wide aperture. 

The Viltrox performs well in backlighting, with only slight flares occurring in extreme situations.

The sunstars are only moderately defined; a different aperture design could easily bring a big improvement here. 

Overall, only the vignette and the aperture stars remain as negative points - 

almost unbelievable for a budget wide-angle lens.

In addition to these hard facts, I really enjoyed shooting with the Viltrox AF 15mm f1.7 Air, especially because of its imaging characteristics.

It simply renders beautifully and modernly!

Many wide-angle lenses today still produce a very nervous bokeh—but with the Viltrox, this isn't an issue. There are no bubbles with border lines, no catseyes, no swirls, no outlining—the rendering is always smooth, regardless of the subject distance.

With this lens, Viltrox has managed to build a very powerful, compact, and lightweight wide-angle lens for relatively little money, which is perfect for landscape and travel photography and, thanks to its wide aperture, also enables "unique" image impressions.
